“More than the Sum” is part of NOMS social enterprise programme to help small and medium sized  enterprises (SMEs) in England participate in the delivery of services for ex-offenders by supporting the creation and development of consortiums.

Taking place in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds, these events will:

• explain the programme objectives in more detail,
• outline the time frame and actions
• describe the technical and other support that will be offered to assist potential bidders.
• facilitate initial networking opportunity
• provide the opportunity to meet with prime providers and other specialists.

Social Enterprise Cleans Up - Car Valeting with a Difference

 Up to seventy cars cleaned a week generates up to £900 while “we train people with disabilities in job-ready skills”.

Rod Burnett, Development Manager at Pluss is rightly proud of the Future Clean service offered by their social enterprise at an Exeter car park. “Our quality and pricing attracts custom. We do get a lot of repeat business, around 50%, and provide loyalty cards so we can track how popular our service is".

“We have developed a low start-up cost Social Franchise,” continued Rod explaining how the service is growing out of Exeter and other Devon car parks into both the north and the east of the country and into cleaning mobility aids and hospital beds. “The operating system is beautiful in its simplicity, huge on ingenuity and environmental gains”.

 Co-operative and Community Finance provide loan finance for co-operatives and community businesses. We are the longest established Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI) in the UK, successfully combining risk lending with financial sustainability.

We are looking for a new Financial Administrator to join our Bristol office and provide accounting, administrative and clerical support to the staff team within a social finance lending environment.

From our Head Office in central Bristol you will be at the heart of the organisation and the CDFI industry, and have an important role within the co-operative movement. You will be central to the delivery of our service package and administrative and information systems to the staff team, the Board of Trustees, borrowers and client organisations.

 In conjunction with Concilium and the regional social enterprise networks NOMS are organising a series of events designed to encourage and facilitate dialogue between NOMS and the sector.

Each event will aim to produce a clear action plan that will seek to ensure that social enterprise has a strong voice within NOMS and a clear way in which to engage.

NOMS want to encourage as much participation as possible from the sector and see this as just the start. We want diversity in size, focus and history – even if you are a new and developing enterprise, please get involved.

Transition Fund Briefing Event South West

 The Cabinet Office has launched a new £100million Transition Fund to help the charities, voluntary groups and social enterprises that are affected by public spending cuts to make necessary adjustments so that they can continue to play an important part in public service reform and the Big Society Agenda.

The Transition Fund will help civil society organisations which deliver high quality public services to be more resilient, agile and able to take opportunities presented by a changing funding environment.

The Office for Civil Society has appointed BIG Fund (non-Lottery funding operation of the Big Lottery Fund) to administer the fund. This briefing is for civil society organisations which meet the criteria below and are interested in applying to the Transition Fund.

This programme is for people with responsibility or interest in marketing their organisation. Organisations with an agreed marketing plan will benefit most from participation and a basic working knowledge of the internet/email is required.
